I have had a few bad expiriences with them. When the weather is cold people bundle up and some are left without seats!!!! For instance, years ago at Iowa on a chilly day i ended up sitting in the F-ing isle!!! Hope that doesnt happen here. Oh well.

The bench seats are a great thing for the college football atmosphere, but they NEED to be maroon. If they're gray/silver metal it's going to look like +%#*. Just do what they do in Williams Arena and make them all maroon with yellow seat numbers. That would look awesome. But the silver....ouch! that's gonna look bad.

Ok you can have your bench seating . . . but they should be maroon and not gray. That would look sweet when the stadium is empty/showing it to recruits. I also hope that there is sufficient room/ spacing to get in and out of your seat/row.

Plus I think being "packed in" with bench seating actually helps you stay warmer on those cold game days. And I agree with the comment about standing up and cheering and being more involved in the game, which is nearly a necessity with bench seating. All good things.

Well, by your logic, why even have an on-campus stadium? Why be like other schools in this regard? As 16feet said, every other school has the right idea. The idea that we shouldn't follow the leads of other schools to be different is ludicrous.

Some reasons why it's not a problem:

1. Tradition at Minnesota - The new stadium, in part, is a connection to a rich history and somewhat lost tradition of Minnesota football. Memorial Stadium was loaded with benches

Well I have been to Lambeau and the bench seating their is pretty cool, I don't know. Maybe the lower level should be bucket seats and the upper level bench seating. Like I said I wish we would have spent a little more money on it to ensure that the stadium will be a top tier facility for many many years, and not just a few. I am not tying to be a downer, I love Gopher Football and am very excited to tailgate, and watch us pound Michigan on a crisp fall morning.

Let's see, benches are good enough for Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Texas A&M, USC, Texas.

Do a little research into college stadiums and report back about who doesn't have benches. I guarantee you the list is short.

Yeah benches are the way to go for sure. It crams more people in and gets them riled up. I don't want people sitting around counting their rolls of fat in some luxury individual seat.

Benches are a part of college football. Without them, the stadium would be less intimate. Pick wisely who you sit next to!

I am a little concerned that they were so eager to build a stadium that they did not spend enough money and it is going to be cheap. If you look at what stadiums are being built for now days we are spending about half of that. I am really excited for the stadium, but concerned as well.

So in the video preview, the middle section of seats are maroon with the Gold M like Mariucci . . . is the rest of the stadium going to be gray bench seating or is it going to be bucket seats? I hope it is maroon bucket seats all the way around.
