New TCF Bank Stadium on site photos |

The stadium is really coming along nicely. Yesterday, the first concrete stadia on the 'upper deck' was installed. A collegue of mine was on site
yesterday and took a ton of pictures. I uploaded my favorites to an image gallery within my profile. I'll post them here for convenience as well - Enjoy:

I counted 32 rows in the lower level. Does that sound right?

They are awesome. It's amazing how quickly they're moving. I can't wait til they join the bowl end and hide those dang silos in the background.
Are they ever all going to go away? |

The photo taken from on one of the concrete bleacher rows where Williams is visible in the background is my favorite. Really gives a sense of how it will feel
to look out through the open end of the horseshoe and see campus buildings.

From the Concourse | #7 | ||
parkinglotgopher wrote: That picture was actually taken from the main concourse right in front of the student entrance. That'll be the exact view people will have coming through that entrance. The scoreboard may hide a lot of Williams I think. |

Question about stadium | #10 | ||
|
So in the video preview, the middle section of seats are maroon with the Gold M like Mariucci . . . is the rest of the stadium going to be gray bench seating
or is it going to be bucket seats? I hope it is maroon bucket seats all the way around.

OK that is gay. The metrodome has bucket seats for crying out loud. I am a little concerned that they were so eager to build a stadium that they did not spend
enough money and it is going to be cheap. If you look at what stadiums are being built for now days we are spending about half of that. I am really excited for
the stadium, but concerned as well.

Benches are a part of college football. Without them, the stadium would be less intimate. Pick wisely who you sit next to!

Yeah benches are the way to go for sure. It crams more people in and gets them riled up. I don't want people sitting around counting their rolls of fat in
some luxury individual seat.

"OK that is gay"
Not quite as gay as your avitar or moniker though. Let's see, benches are good enough for Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Texas A&M, USC, Texas. Do a little research into college stadiums and report back about who doesn't have benches. I guarantee you the list is short.

bench seating | #17 | ||
|
Well I have been to Lambeau and the bench seating their is pretty cool, I don't know. Maybe the lower level should be bucket seats and the upper level
bench seating. Like I said I wish we would have spent a little more money on it to ensure that the stadium will be a top tier facility for many many years, and
not just a few. I am not tying to be a downer, I love Gopher Football and am very excited to tailgate, and watch us pound Michigan on a crisp fall morning.

Because every other school is right in this case.

Well, by your logic, why even have an on-campus stadium? Why be like other schools in this regard? As 16feet said, every other school has the right idea. The
idea that we shouldn't follow the leads of other schools to be different is ludicrous.
Some reasons why it's not a problem: 1. Tradition at Minnesota - The new stadium, in part, is a connection to a rich history and somewhat lost tradition of Minnesota football. Memorial Stadium was loaded with benches 2. Tradition in college football - College football stadiums are loaded with benches; in some cases the whole stadium is bench seating. It's the way college football stadiums are designed. The last time we rebuffed tradition (be it Minnesota-based or general to college football), we ended up in the hideous dome we've all waited so long to leave. 3. Allocating resources elsewhere in the stadium - Because every other school does it and because it's tradition, the stadium can feature bench seating and save the money that would have been wasted on individual seats in these sections to make other amenities of the stadium nicer: wider concourses, nicer facade, etc. 4. Avoiding sitting Stans/Sallys - People complain all the time that not enough people stand and cheer at Gopher games. Given them an individual seat just encourages them to sit and watch rather than actively be a part of the game and stand up, at least once in a while, during the game. 5. Long-term costs - Benches will be good and in full-functioning shape for damn near forever. If a seat is broken, it must be repaired. In 50 years at the stadium the costs of having to repair seats, especially in the student section where zeal for the team's success and failures can run exceptionally high, would mount while the benches will be the same throughout.
