Posts: 4147 Apr 25 08 11:00 AM Member	Remove this ad I'm sure a lot of you have already heard about this, but I was trying to get some factual information about what happened. I haven't yet - so I'll just post on what I've heard. A source close to Fritz says that the U pulled his offer because they wanted him to commit and he wasn't ready to make that choice yet. I'm sure there's more to the story, as Rock is only a Junior, and it's still early. I have heard that Brewster only wanted 2 WR's in this 2009 class, and with Keise committing, I'm guessing that had something to do with this decision. If this is true, that leaves one spot left, for Bryce McNeal...or someone Brew has up his sleeve. Like I said, take this all with a grain of salt, that's why I'm just posting this on the board and did not do a story on it. It is all speculation, but it's what I've pieced together - and wanted to pass it along.

It seems like we are already starting a Minnesota chooses you not vice versa approach. I'm not even sure why we would even take Royston back if hes not good enough to play at Wisconsin? We have a limited number of schollies and need to use them to sign the Bryce Mcneals of the world. I snuck into the Rose Bowl got caught (on the fence) and want to go back. Posts: 4148 Apr 25 08 1:17 PM	Recruits don't hold all the power. We really don't need anymore wide receivers. Fritz is a good player but he's not out of this world. We have needs at other spots. It's not a right to keep your scholarship offer if you don't commit. Most powerhouse programs fill up their spots early because kids know that they won't wait around for them unless they're really ridiculously good. We've been so used to taking the leftovers of other programs that we don't know the realities of recruiting.

Posts: 205 Apr 25 08 2:17 PM	I doubt Fritz would come down to Winona, as he is still a division 1 athlete. I haven't seen him play, but just by looking at the video and others on the site he is still good enough to play somewhere at this level.

Chosing a college, especially when scholarships are concerned is an important decision and as much as I would like to see top recruits at MN, the recruit has to decide that. That said, first it seems right to ask if this is true, since there does seem to be some speculation to its validity? Also, if true, the Gophers do not have a full compliment of Scholarship for 09 and have positions that they will need to address. WR, given the last couple of classes, may not be as important as what appears to be the OL. It also does suggest they have someone on their radar or feel confident will commit. Though Rock has MN #1, will it stay that way?

Posts: 1577 Apr 25 08 5:28 PM	appreciate the post gopherlady, all of the points are valid. while i also believe Fritz has done nothing wrong, he may have just missed the boat that was waiting for him. if he truly had wanted to come to MN, then assuming the offer was not contingent, then he should have taken what was on the table. the family should know by now that recruiting waits for no recruit. ironically, there have been postings that Fritz (or his family?) were put off that MN kept pressuring him to commit - well if he truly wanted MN, then it is interesting that he didnt pull the trigger. while i am forced to speculate, i suspect MN told him that he only had so long to accept, and if he didnt, then the offer was off the table. remember what Brewster said last year - recruiting will be first come, first served, and if you dont get on board when asked, you will lose your spot. well the ship seems to have sailed. personally i was intrigued by the offer (not sure how much of it was truly his talent, or his zip code, or both) yet was truly hopeful of what Fritz could have brought to the program.
