Very, very well written and researched article. One interesting thing I noticed: Only 2 of the 10 "Best" moments have occurred after the year 2000.
Comparitively, an amazing 7 of the 10 "Worst" moments have occurred after the year 2000!!! I agree with this and it just goes to show how horribly
bad the last eight years have been in the dome.
Good riddance Humpty Dump. You have been a terrible, terrible thing for Gopher Football. |

Fun list, Disagree though. Top two best moments are not in your top ten. | #2

The best two Gopher games I went to in the dome were both losses, which is a sad statement.
The one where they hung with Oklahoma 13-7 and the one where they had Ohio State on the ropes till Foggie came up lame. |

Wins versus ranked teams in the Dome | #3
|
We have endured MANY loses at the hands of ranked teams in the dome. In the 27 years we played there, here were the home wins over ranked teams:
1990: 31-24 win over #13 Iowa 1993: 28-21 win over #15 Wisconsin 1996: 35-33 win over #23 Syracuse 2000: 44-10 win over #22 Illinois 2005: 42-35 win over #11Purdue During those same 27 years we lost to 36 ranked teams in the dome. Good riddance. |

Willie Middlebrooks over Mike Lehan? Are you serious? | #4
|
I have to disagree with one thing. There is no way Willie Middlebrooks--the king of the pass interference, the man that never looked back at a ball in the
air, etc--deserves to be on the first team in front of Mike Lehan. I realize Middlebrooks was a first round pick which may have implied he was good but Lehan
was much better at Minnesota and much better in the NFL which is why he still plays there and Middlebrooks doesn't. In fact, after the Middlebrooks draft
debacle Denver finally realized they couldn't identify DB talent so they traded star running back Clinton Portis to get an established star CB.

Another measure of just how bad the Dump has been for the Gophs...they don't have a winning record against any conference opponent during their tenure
there. Closest they come is .500 against NU.

Darryl Thompson's 98 yard(?) TD run against Michigan in 1987(?) . Too much beer and bong resin from that time in my life to remember exactly when and the
yardage. ALl I do remember is that Darryl was damned near parallel to the turf when he turned the corner.

I do realize they played a lot of man-to-man but that is no excuse to run in to a receiver that is stopping to come back and get the ball. When the ball was
in the air he had the worst ball skills of a corner that I have ever seen in my life. When the guy you are covering is staring back it is because the ball is
in the air. Get a clue and turn your head Willie.

The '93 victory over unbeaten Wisconsin was the top Gopher victory in the Dome, and the 84-13 humiliation by Nebraska in '83 by far the worst. I was
there for both.

1982, The run and shoot sold out the dome as the the Gophers were 3-0 vs. Illinois. No contest .
Illinois 42 Minnesota 24. I think Tony Eason exposed something and we didn't win another game that year. Flash forward to 1986 and Pacific. We had a freshman, Darrell Thompson. Ricky Foggie at QB and manage to lose 20-24. This was the team that went on to win at The Big House. 1999 Wisconsin. The game turns on an injury to Tyrone Carter, but ends up in a tie. We went first in overtime and were lost, not prepared. Resulting in a Wisconsin win 20-17. 2000 Ohio Bobcats, remember the wishbone? Just awful we go done 23-17 As far as the rosters I would have to give a nod to Willie Van De Steeg. And for those who saw the game against Iowa and The Chuck Long All Stars the unsung hero was a safety Andre Harris. He batted down at least 4 long balls to keep us in the game. And I can still see Gary Couch sweeping right and scoring. |

I still remember the quote from Gary Couch after the game | #15
|
I had just moved down to Iowa. It was a smart ass Des Moines Regsiter columnist. The guy asked soemthing to Couch like "aren't you a little ashamed
to be playing for Minnesota and representing them against us (Iowa)?"
Couch replied, "I represent the City of Davenport. And the University of Minnesota. Go Gophers!" |

Van De Steeg is great but Lamanzer Williams set an NCAA record for sacks in a season and Karon Riley was an absolute beast. I miss the days of Thunder (Riley)
and Lightning (Greg White).
It feels kind of funny to see guys like Van De Steeg left off but you'll notice that Marion Barber III doesn't appear on the list either (Thompson & Maroney). It is hard to argue with the guys that keep WVDS and MBIII off the list. |

2000 Ohio Bobcats, remember the wishbone? Just awful we go done 23-17The one thing I really remember from that game: my esteemed colleague in the student section announcing as time ran out in the first quarter, "At the end of the first quarter, the score is Ohio 13, Minnesota SUCKS." Got a warm reception from the students around us. Only bright spot that day. |

What about the Penn St. game | #18
|
I just can't imagine a top 10 worst games at the dome without the recent loss to Penn St. back (I believe) 1995. The Gophers missed an extra point in OT
which was their ultimate demise. It was compounded by a horrible call by the Refs on the ensuing drive by Penn St. in which the Gophers had them beat on an
incomplete pass on 4th down in the endzone and they were flagged for defensive pass interference which gave PSU a whole new set of downs. Of course..they
scored the game tying TD and the PAT which was the dagger that beat the Gophers. I am not ashamed to say, I literally cried my eyes out after that game and
asked myself..."how can I keep doing this to myself"???? It was brutal ....B R U T A L, brutal!!

What about Dan Nystrom? I don't know much about the kicker that's on the list right now as I'm a bit younger, but I can't see how a guy that
held two respectable big ten records isn't on the list. ( I believe one of the records was broken last week by the penn state kicker)

Stewie-Nystrom was a great kicker and would be on the 2nd team if they had it. However, Chip Lohmiller is one of the best kickers in college football history.
He hit a 62 yard field goal which should give you an idea of what kind of leg he had. The Redskins drafted him in the 2nd round (55 overall). No disrespect to
Nystrom but Lohmiller deserves the award.
